If you’re a Donald Trump supporter you want to “Make America Great Again”… presumably that means taking us back to segregated schools and where whites and blacks had their own drinking fountains.
If you’re a Hillary Clinton supporter you’re thinking “America never stopped being great”.. I’m sure slaves in the 1800’s would disagree. I’m sure American Indians who were slaughtered by our ancestors as we invaded their native land would also disagree.
There’s a reason that gay rights, women’s rights, and minority advocacy groups have been fighting inequality for the better part of the last two centuries. Because America is not good enough. Not good-enough is hardly ‘great’. If frosted flakes were just ‘good enough’ it wouldn’t really be that good of a catch phrase now would it.
In this light we’re looking at only “Making America Good Enough for Some – Again”, or that “America never stopped being ‘good enough’ for some…”
How can anyone claim that a country that only takes care of the needs of the 1% and has 65% of it’s population living paycheck to paycheck (essentially slaves to corporate America), is a great nation. Financially it was better under Roosevelt with the new deal in place, but it lacked equality in other areas. If we can get rid of biases in all forms, and raise the income equality in America – we actually might have a chance to “Make America Great for the First Time.”
Anyone who has blind allegiance to their country for the sake of nationalism or pride is nothing more than a brainwashed fool. There’s a reason we’re forced to say the pledge of allegiance in schools – it’s a form of brainwashing to trick people into believing that America is the greatest nation on earth.
America is FAR from the greatest nation on earth. In fact Denmark is by most polls considered the happiest country on the planet. I would imagine that the ‘happy’ factor should be the number one measure of a country’s value ranking. America is currently ranked greater than 30th for quality of education, fair elections, healthcare, income equality, and more.
How can the 30 worst country in the world for most major metrics be ‘GREAT’. We’re not even mediocre, maybe if we were in the top 20. We’re lackluster at best, failing at worst.
Bernie Sanders’ plans and policies are what we need to usher in an era of greatness. The country is slowly becoming more progressive and progressive values always moves us in the right direction. We’re ages beyond the rest of the world though, and we’re facing the possibility of major declines in America – “fall of Rome” style declines. It’s only a matter of time before the outrage from the masses tips the scales against the establishment and we burn it down.
Bernie Sanders keeps being marginalized, for his political revolution to take root he really needs to separate himself from the Democratic Party and join Jill Stein. The general election is an open election for everyone. There is no way that Independents can be blocked from voting for Bernie Sanders. Bernie has used the Democratic platform as much as he can to get as much coverage as he can, now it’s time for him to leave the party of “no” and “it’ll never ever happen” and strike out on his own. It may encourage a Republican to enter the field as an Independent against Donald Trump, and then anything would theoretically be possible.
