According to an article from TheHill.com Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla) said that if it were her decision she would scrap open primaries and only allow voters registered as Democrats to participate in primaries.

According to the Washington Examiner during an interview with “MSNBC Live” on Monday May 2nd she was quoted as saying:

“I believe that the party’s nominee should be chosen — this is Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s opinion — that the party’s nominee should be chosen by members of the party,”

Open primaries allow Independents to vote and participate in the Democratic and Republican primary elections, where closed primaries require that each voter be affiliated with a party.

Bernie Sanders has frequently said, and statistics back him up that he does way better in open primary states, where large numbers of Independent voters have come out and given him the lead.

Donald Trump has also benefited from Independents during this primary season.

Since the beginning of this primary season, the DNC with Debbie Wasserman Schultz at it’s helm have been working tooth and nail to stop Bernie Sanders and give this election outright to Hillary Clinton. She first faced criticism by limiting the number of primary debates to only 6 verses 26 in 2008.

If you want to make the primaries closed, why not also ban Independents from voting in the General Election? If you don’t ‘value’ their votes now when picking who to vote for in the fall, how can you possibly expect to ‘deserve’ them in November?

Many Independents have left one party or the other because of their contempt with the system, but they should still have a voice in American politics, in fact they make up 42% of the electorate and if they were their own political party, they would be the largest political party in America.

As a proud Indy for over 8 years, I am certain that there is nothing democratic in the D Party. They decide who the nominee will be and waste our time with useless primaries which should be held all on one day like the general, but that would prevent fraud necessary for the nomination.
